Batac Boosts Farm Productivity With Fertilizer Aid for 555 Farmers

BATAC CITY — The city government of Batac has provided foliar fertilizers to 555 registered farmers from 30 rural barangays, supporting efforts to sustain the productivity of high-value crops and protect farmers’ income.

Mayor Mark Christian Chuan said Wednesday that the agricultural assistance is part of the city’s continuing efforts to provide farmers with essential inputs that can help maintain crop health and productivity, particularly during critical stages of plant growth.

The fertilizer support is also expected to help farmers manage production expenses while sustaining crop yields.

“Alam natin ang sipag at tiyaga ng ating mga magsasaka. Kaya patuloy nating ginagawa ang ating makakaya para mabigyan sila ng support na makakatulong sa kanilang produksyon at kabuhayan,” Chuan said.

Farmer-beneficiaries welcomed the assistance, saying the timely distribution would help ease the financial pressure brought about by rising prices of agricultural inputs.

The fertilizer was distributed Monday, providing farmers with additional resources as they work to maintain production and household income.

Among those who expressed appreciation was Jenny Onera, a former overseas Filipino worker who returned to Batac and pursued farming as an entrepreneur.

“We sincerely thank the city government of Batac for their quick response in terms of disaster and for their timely intervention when we need it most,” Onera said.

City Agriculturist Mark Allan Abad said the distribution is part of the city’s continuing program to strengthen the high-value crop sector by providing farmers with appropriate production inputs and technical assistance.

The initiative seeks to improve farm productivity, strengthen local food production and contribute to a more stable supply of agricultural commodities.

By bringing assistance directly to farming communities, the city government aims to help local producers become more productive and resilient amid rising production costs and other challenges affecting agriculture.

Generator sets strengthen disaster preparedness

Meanwhile, the city government has also distributed 9-kilowatt silent-type generator sets to all 43 barangays as part of its efforts to strengthen community disaster preparedness.

The generator sets are intended to provide alternative power during typhoons, floods, earthquakes, prolonged power interruptions and other emergencies.

The additional equipment is expected to help barangays maintain essential operations, particularly during disaster response, relief distribution and other critical activities when regular electricity service is disrupted.

The twin initiatives—supporting farmers and strengthening barangay emergency capacity—reflect Batac’s broader effort to build communities that are more productive, self-reliant and resilient in the face of economic and natural challenges.
