NGCP Confirms Stable Power Grid Nationwide Ahead of President Marcos’ SONA

MANILA — The National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) assured the public that all major transmission grids across the country remained under normal operating conditions on Monday as government agencies heightened preparations for President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA).

In an advisory, the NGCP announced the activation of its Overall Command Center to provide round-the-clock monitoring of the country's power transmission network and ensure uninterrupted electricity service during one of the nation's most significant annual events.

The grid operator said comprehensive contingency measures have been implemented to immediately respond to any potential power transmission disturbances.

"NGCP's contingency plans remain in place to closely monitor the grid and immediately address any power transmission disturbances," the advisory stated.

Technical Teams on Full Alert

The NGCP reported that its critical operational units, including System Operations (SO) and Operations and Maintenance (O&M), are fully staffed and prepared to respond to any technical issues that may arise.

Line crews, engineers, maintenance specialists, testing personnel, pilots, and other technical teams have also been strategically deployed across substations and key transmission facilities nationwide to ensure rapid response in the event of line trippings or operational concerns.

The Overall Command Center will remain operational from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the NGCP committing to release public updates on the status of substations and transmission lines every four hours throughout the day.

Ensuring Reliable Power During the SONA

The heightened monitoring forms part of the NGCP's standard reliability measures to maintain the stability of the country's power transmission system during major national events.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. is scheduled to deliver his fifth State of the Nation Address on Monday afternoon before a joint session of Congress at the Batasang Pambansa Complex. The address is expected to last approximately one hour and 20 minutes.

With all transmission grids operating normally and contingency measures fully in place, the NGCP expressed confidence in its ability to provide stable and reliable power transmission throughout the President's annual report to the nation.
