Easterlies Maintain Rain Chances Across the Philippines Despite Fair Weather Conditions

MANILA – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said most parts of the country will continue to experience isolated rain showers and thunderstorms on Sunday as the easterlies persist over several regions.

In its early morning weather bulletin, PAGASA reported that the easterlies, or warm and humid winds originating from the Pacific Ocean, continue to influence weather conditions across Mindanao and the eastern portions of Southern Luzon and the Visayas.

The weather bureau said the Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, and Tawi-Tawi are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to the prevailing easterlies. Residents in these areas are advised to remain vigilant as moderate to occasionally heavy rainfall may trigger localized flash floods and landslides, particularly in flood-prone and mountainous communities.

Meanwhile, the Bicol Region, Eastern Visayas, and the rest of Mindanao will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms. PAGASA noted that these weather conditions are also being influenced by the easterlies and may result in brief but intense downpours in some areas.

Metro Manila and the rest of the country are expected to enjoy generally fair weather conditions, although localized thunderstorms may still develop during the afternoon and evening, bringing isolated rain showers.

PAGASA warned that severe thunderstorms could generate sudden heavy rains capable of causing flash floods, landslides, and reduced visibility in affected localities.

The weather agency added that warm temperatures and humid conditions are likely to prevail across much of the country throughout the day.

As of Sunday morning, PAGASA reported that no low-pressure area is being monitored either inside or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility, indicating no immediate threat of tropical cyclone development.

Wind conditions nationwide are expected to remain light to moderate, while coastal waters will be slight to moderate, making sea travel generally favorable for most areas.

However, PAGASA advised mariners, fishermen, and operators of small sea vessels to remain alert for sudden thunderstorms that may develop over coastal and inland waters, as these can bring strong winds, rough seas, and reduced visibility.

The weather bureau continues to encourage the public to monitor official forecasts and advisories for updates on changing weather conditions.
