Kadiwa ng Pangulo Opens in Antique, Boosting Market Access for Farmers and Weavers

SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique — Local farmers and producers in Antique gained direct access to consumers as the Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) opened Thursday in the provincial capital, marking the start of the province's celebration of the 128th Independence Day.

The two-day KNP event brought together 40 producers from across Antique, providing residents with affordable agricultural products while helping local farmers increase their earnings through direct selling.

Provincial KNP Coordinator Ge Anthony Recopuerto said consumers benefited from lower-priced goods available at the market.

Among the participating groups was the Kamapat Agricultural Cooperative, which showcased freshly harvested products such as avocados, bananas, eggplants, and rice produced by its 876 farmer-members.

"The KNP has provided our farmer-members with a venue where they can directly market their products," said Kamapat finance officer Joann Barrientos.

As a product consolidator, the cooperative offered 25-kilogram bags of well-milled rice at PHP1,250, lower than the prevailing market price of PHP1,300 due to the absence of intermediaries in the supply chain.

Local weavers from the United Group of Weavers at Dapdap also generated income through the sale of handcrafted mats, bags, wallets, and other woven products displayed at the event.

Meanwhile, the Department of Agriculture-Western Visayas Regional Field Unit facilitated a market-matching activity at the New Antique Capitol to strengthen links between producers and potential buyers.

According to Lynnie Santillan of the Antique Federation of Cooperatives Enterprise Program, the initiative created opportunities to connect directly with local suppliers who could provide agricultural products for food establishments.

"We are looking for suppliers of coffee, muscovado sugar, vegetables, and meat products to meet the needs of our establishments," Santillan said.

The Kadiwa ng Pangulo program continues to support local farmers, cooperatives, and micro-enterprises by expanding market opportunities while making quality products more accessible to consumers.
