Japan-Linked Oil Tanker Safely Navigates Key Strait Amid Supply Concerns

A Japanese-owned oil tanker has successfully passed through the Strait of Hormuz, easing immediate concerns over energy supply disruptions.

The Panama-flagged Idemitsu Maru, managed by a subsidiary of Idemitsu Kosan Co., is carrying around two million barrels of crude oil. The vessel had loaded its cargo at a terminal in Saudi Arabia in early March.

After remaining stationary for more than a week off Abu Dhabi, the tanker resumed its journey and transited the strait after receiving permission from authorities in Iran.

Japan depends heavily on Middle Eastern oil imports, with most shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz—a vital global shipping route. Recent tensions in the region have raised concerns about supply stability and contributed to rising crude oil prices.

The safe passage of the tanker highlights ongoing efforts to maintain energy flows despite geopolitical challenges.
