PSC Grants Over ?11M in Incentives to ASEAN Para Games Medalists

MANILA — The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) awarded more than ₱11 million in cash incentives to Filipino medalists of the 2026 ASEAN Para Games during a ceremony held Tuesday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

The incentives were granted under Republic Act No. 10699, which provides ₱150,000 for gold medalists, ₱75,000 for silver, and ₱30,000 for bronze.

Present at the awarding ceremony were Christopher Go, chair of the Senate committee on youth and sports, along with PSC Chairperson John Patrick Gregorio and commissioners Olivia “Bong” Coo, Matthew “Fritz” Gaston, Walter Torres, and Edward Hayco. Michael Barredo, president of the Philippine Paralympic Committee (PPC), also attended.

Barredo commended the athletes for their performance, noting the country’s improved overall standing in the regional meet.

“This is the first time in many years that we finished fourth, after consistently placing fifth or sixth,” he said, highlighting the athletes’ contribution to national pride despite global challenges.

Meanwhile, Go pointed out that a proposed measure seeking equal incentives for para-athletes and their able-bodied counterparts remains pending in Congress.

Currently, para-athletes receive only half the incentives awarded to medalists in the Southeast Asian Games: ₱150,000 versus ₱300,000 for gold, ₱75,000 versus ₱150,000 for silver, and ₱30,000 versus ₱60,000 for bronze.
