Isabela farmers boost productivity and income through DAR Farm Business School

CITY OF ILAGAN, Isabela — Farmers from the Estrella Danggayan Agrarian Reform Beneficiaries (ARB) Cooperative in San Guillermo are enhancing their farm management skills and income potential after completing a Farm Business School (FBS) training organized by the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) in Isabela.

Facilitated by DAR development officers Joie Art Villamil and Mike Mangoba, the program provided hands-on guidance in farm planning, efficient resource use, and practical strategies to increase productivity.

Villamil explained that the training also serves as preparation for an upcoming benchmarking visit to a model farm, where participants will gain insights from successful agricultural practices.

He noted that the sessions helped farmers shift their perspective by treating farming as a business, allowing them to make more informed and strategic decisions to improve operations.

Participants learned simple yet effective methods to boost farm efficiency and identify additional sources of income. The training highlighted the value of seeing agriculture not just as a livelihood, but as a sustainable and profitable enterprise.

Villamil added that the skills and knowledge gained are expected to strengthen farmers’ confidence ahead of the benchmarking activity, where they can adopt proven techniques and apply them in their own communities.

Through the Farm Business School initiative, DAR continues to empower agrarian reform beneficiaries with the tools and expertise needed to achieve higher productivity, increased earnings, and long-term sustainability in agriculture.
