MANILA – The Department of Health – Metro Manila Center for Health Development (DOH-MMCHD), in partnership with the San Juan City government, ramped up local vaccination efforts on Monday in celebration of World Immunization Week 2026.
Held at the Makabagong San Juan Theater, the initiative aims to promote the life-saving benefits of vaccines and strengthen public trust in immunization programs.
The campaign coincides with the 50th anniversary of the Philippines’ national immunization program, with the DOH adopting the theme “Bakuna at Proteksyon ni Baby, My Responsibility” to emphasize the shared responsibility of parents and communities in protecting children’s health.
Health officials are targeting a 95% full immunization rate among children aged 0 to 59 months against preventable diseases such as measles, polio, and rubella.
“Immunization remains one of the most effective and cost-efficient public health interventions,” said Lester Tan during his speech.
He added that vaccines have saved millions of lives worldwide and continue to play a critical role in preventing disease outbreaks and protecting communities.
The activity also offered a wide range of health services, including:
A key priority of the 2026 campaign is reaching “zero-dose children”—those who have not received any routine vaccines.
By strengthening immunization efforts at the barangay level, the DOH and local government aim to close gaps in vaccine coverage and ensure a healthier future for Filipino children.
