Alberto Lim Jr. dominates Philta Men’s Open, clinches singles and doubles titles

MANILA – Alberto Lim Jr. reaffirmed his status as the country’s top tennis player after sweeping the inaugural Philta Men’s Open at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center on Sunday.

Lim captured the singles crown with a straight-sets victory over second seed Eric Jed Olivarez Jr., 7-6(6), 6-1. The two later teamed up to secure the doubles title, defeating Arthur Craig Pantino and Noel Damian, 6-3, 4-6, 11-9.

For his singles triumph, Lim took home PHP350,000 and 1,000 ranking points, while Olivarez earned PHP175,000 and 750 points in the Grand Slam-level tournament supported by Tecnifibre and the Philippine Sports Commission.

The winning doubles pair received PHP80,000 and 1,000 points, with Pantino and Damian settling for PHP40,000 and 750 points.

“Beyond the win today, I want to thank God, my family, my team, and everyone who came to watch,” Lim said, expressing gratitude for the support. He also extended his winning streak over Olivarez, following victories in the 2026 Philta Men’s Masters Top 8 and the 2025 PCA Open.

Olivarez showed resilience throughout the tournament, including a quarterfinal win against Pantino, 6-3, 6-1, and a semifinal victory over Francis Casey Alcantara, 6-1, 6-4.

“I’m really grateful because I had a lot of tough matches leading up to the finals,” Olivarez said. “It’s been a long journey. Of course, I wanted to win, but I’m still thankful to be here.”

Lim, Olivarez, Alcantara, and Pantino were also part of the Philippine team that secured a bronze medal in the Southeast Asian Games last year.
