DOT Supports International Circus in La Union to Drive Tourism and Local Growth

SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — The Department of Tourism (DOT) is backing the staging of an international circus in the city, highlighting its potential to boost tourism and stimulate the local economy across the Ilocos Region.

The Euro Xtreme Circus Philippine Tour is anticipated to draw both local and domestic visitors, helping increase tourist arrivals while creating business opportunities for hotels, restaurants, transport providers, tour operators, and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

DOT Ilocos Regional Director Benjamin Manahan Jr. noted that large-scale international entertainment events are still rare in the region, making the circus a valuable addition to its tourism attractions. He emphasized that events of this scale can significantly benefit hospitality, food, and tourism-related businesses.

The DOT is ramping up promotional efforts to attract visitors from across Region 1, including Pangasinan, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos Norte, and nearby provinces. It is also working closely with local government units (LGUs), national agencies, and media partners to ensure the event runs smoothly, with a focus on safety, accessibility, and overall visitor experience.

Manahan said the collaboration aims to deliver a memorable event while showcasing La Union and the region’s tourism potential.

The Euro Xtreme Circus, an international animal-free production known for its acrobatics and high-risk stunts, is currently touring major areas in Luzon as part of its Philippine run. In La Union, performances are scheduled from April 28 to May 24 at the Poro Point Baywalk in the Freeport Zone of San Fernando City.

Tickets are available online through artboxentertainment.com.

Tourism officials added that the event supports efforts to promote event-driven tourism and encourage travelers to explore destinations beyond major urban centers, in line with national strategies to strengthen domestic tourism and regional economic development.

With its expected influx of visitors and positive impact on local businesses, the international circus is seen as a timely addition to La Union’s growing roster of tourism and entertainment events.
