Laguna kicks off summer sports program for youth development

The provincial government of Laguna officially launched its Summer Sports Development Program in Calamba City on Friday, aiming to train and engage young athletes across the province.

Governor Sol Aragones emphasized the role of sports in guiding the youth toward productive activities and positive values.

“Sports are important to keep youth on the right path and give them something meaningful to focus on,” she said during the opening ceremony held in Barangay Canlubang.

The event also featured the oath-taking of program coaches, who committed to promoting discipline, integrity, teamwork, and sportsmanship while helping develop the participants’ athletic skills.

The program will cover a wide range of sports, including arnis, chess, football, taekwondo, swimming, lawn tennis, pencak silat, and karate, with the goal of identifying and nurturing talent throughout the province.

Basketball training sessions will be led by former Philippine Basketball Association players Paul Artadi and James Yap, who will mentor aspiring young athletes.
