A viral video showing a commercial airplane seemingly motionless in the sky has amazed many viewers online. The clip, recorded by a resident from Quezon City while traveling through Las Piñas, made it look like the aircraft was suspended in place.

However, a physicist clarified that such a situation is not possible in real life. Airplanes stay in the air because of lift, an upward force produced when air flows over the wings as the plane moves forward.

This means that continuous forward motion is necessary for flight. If an aircraft slows down too much or nearly stops, it will lose lift and can no longer remain airborne, causing it to descend.

The expert explained that what people saw in the video is most likely an optical illusion rather than an actual aircraft stopping in midair.
