Department of Science and Technology scholarship boosts careers in science and tech

MANILA – The Department of Science and Technology continues to strengthen the country’s science workforce through its scholarship program, which supports college students pursuing priority degrees in science and technology.

During a briefing hosted by the Philippine Information Agency Ilocos Region, Nikko S. Ofo-ob said the program targets students enrolled in STEM courses at state universities and colleges. The initiative aims to assist talented learners in completing their education and preparing for careers in scientific and technological fields.

Under the Junior Level Science Scholarship (JLSS), scholars receive financial support that includes tuition assistance, learning materials and connectivity allowance, monthly stipends, thesis support, and other benefits such as health insurance and transportation aid.

To qualify, applicants must be natural-born Filipino citizens, currently in their second year of college, enrolled in identified priority courses, and maintaining strong academic performance. Applications are submitted online through the official JLSS portal within the designated period.

The program also requires scholars to render return service after graduation, ensuring that beneficiaries contribute their skills to national development. Officials said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to nurturing homegrown scientists and innovators who will drive progress in the Philippines.
