Bukidnon Governor Backs Ex-Rebels’ Reintegration Through Coffee, Livelihood Programs

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The provincial government of Bukidnon has reaffirmed its commitment to helping former rebels reintegrate into society, pledging support through agriculture and economic initiatives.

Governor Rogelio Neil Roque, speaking at a peace summit on Wednesday, said former rebels can find new opportunities in coffee farming and trade, which are central to the province’s long-term Coffee Roadmap program.

“The coffee industry is one of many alternatives we can offer, alongside national government initiatives. I encourage our former rebels to work together as one community to overcome poverty,” Roque said.

Roque delivered his message at the Former Rebel and Peacebuilders Summit, organized by various government agencies. During the event, the former rebels—now referred to as “friends rescued” (FRs)—recited the “Panumpa sa Pakig-Unong” (Peace Covenant), pledging to abandon armed struggle in favor of peace and unity.

The covenant was led by Maj. Gen. Michele B. Anayron Jr., commander of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division, symbolizing the commitment of FRs to nation-building in partnership with the government and the Filipino people.
