MANILA – German finswimmer Max Poschart is among the seven athletes elected to the International World Games Association (IWGA) Athlete Committee for the 2025–2029 term.
Poschart, who captured gold in the men’s 100m and contributed to Germany’s victories in the 4x50m and 4x100m surface relays at the recent World Games in Chengdu, China (Aug. 7–17), will now take on a leadership role representing athletes on the global stage.
He will serve alongside six other newly elected members: China’s Xiaoxiao (Sunny) Lai (wushu), Spain’s Sandra Sánchez (karate), Hungary’s Petra Senánszky (underwater sports), Andrea Busa (kickboxing), Yves Martial Tadissi (karate), and Australia’s Catherine Phillips (flying disc). The athletes were chosen from a pool of 20 nominees put forward by their International Federations, with accredited athletes casting their votes online from August 3 to 16.
Under the IWGA Constitution, the president may appoint up to two additional members by October 2025 to ensure gender, sport, and regional balance. Once the final committee is complete, its members will elect a chairperson who will also sit on the IWGA Executive Committee during the same four-year term.
IWGA President José Perurena congratulated the new members, noting, “The strong engagement of athletes during the voting period shows how important this Committee is for the future of The World Games.” Executive Committee members Jan Fransoo and John Liljelund added that the Athletes Committee “serves as a vital bridge between the IWGA and the competitors who bring the Games to life.”
