MANILA, Philippines – The Embassy of Japan in the Philippines on Friday welcomed the 12th batch of Nihongo Partners, marking another year of cultural exchange under the Japan Foundation’s flagship language and culture program.
Nineteen Japanese language teachers paid a courtesy call on Japanese Ambassador to the Philippines Endo Kazuya before beginning their assignments in various schools nationwide. They were joined by Japan Foundation Manila Director Suzuki Ben.
The Nihongo Partners Program strengthens Japanese language education across Asia by deploying native speakers to assist local teachers, share Japanese culture, and promote mutual understanding. Beyond classroom support, participants are encouraged to immerse themselves in local communities—learning Filipino customs, traditions, and language.
Ambassador Endo expressed confidence that the new batch will help deepen bilateral ties. “Their efforts to share Japanese language and culture, while embracing Filipino culture, will further strengthen cultural and people-to-people exchanges between Japan and the Philippines,” he said.
Over the next six months to a year, the teachers will be assigned to schools in Benguet, Pangasinan, Bulacan, the National Capital Region, Laguna, Batangas, Cebu, Bohol, and Davao, supporting both language instruction and cultural programs.
Since its inception, the program has provided Japanese teachers with valuable cross-cultural experiences while giving Filipino students first-hand exposure to authentic Japanese language and traditions.
