MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) has dispatched ₱1.7 million worth of essential health supplies to Catanduanes, one of the provinces severely affected by Super Typhoon Uwan.
According to the DOH, the shipment—comprising hygiene kits, breastfeeding kits, water containers, purification tablets, and various medicines—was turned over to the Catanduanes Provincial Health Office on Nov. 13, coinciding with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s visit to the province.
The relief items directly address urgent health needs identified through on-ground assessments by the DOH–Bicol Center for Health Development and the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Response Cluster.
Beyond immediate aid, the DOH is also accelerating efforts to set up water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities throughout affected communities. Additional health teams have been deployed to support public health operations and strengthen services in devastated areas.
Health authorities continue to monitor cases of injuries, waterborne diseases, and other typhoon-related health concerns to prevent further risks.
President Marcos inspected the areas ravaged by Super Typhoon Uwan, which made landfall on Nov. 9 and caused widespread damage across the island province. He directed government agencies to sustain relief efforts and ensure that affected families receive timely support for recovery.
