Carlos Yulo Reclaims World Vault Gold at FIG Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta

MANILA – Filipino gymnastics superstar Carlos Edriel Yulo once again brought pride to the Philippines after clinching the gold medal in the men’s vault at the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships held in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Saturday night.

Yulo delivered a stellar performance, posting an impressive 14.886 points, edging out Armenia’s Arthur Davtyan (14.833) and Ukraine’s Nazar Chepurnyi (14.483) to capture the top podium spot.

The victory marks a stunning comeback for the 25-year-old Olympian, who was dethroned by Davtyan in the 2022 United Kingdom edition but reclaimed dominance after also finishing ahead of him at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

Just a day earlier, Yulo secured the bronze medal in the floor exercise, where Great Britain’s Jake Jarman and Luke Whitehouse took first and second places, respectively.

“It feels amazing,” Yulo told Olympics.com after the finals. “Yesterday, I was really feeling it. Getting bronze gave me a lot of motivation to do well today. I’m really grateful it happened.”

This is Yulo’s second world title in the vault event, following his 2021 triumph in Kitakyushu, Japan. He previously won his first-ever world gold in the floor exercise in Stuttgart, Germany in 2019. However, he missed the podium in the 2023 Antwerp, Belgium championship—making this win a powerful comeback.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chair Patrick Gregorio lauded Yulo’s achievement, calling him a national treasure and a continuing source of pride for Filipino athletes.

“Caloy continues to inspire and excite our countrymen on the world stage. With the nation’s full support, I’m sure our two-time Olympic champion will make us proud over and over again,” Gregorio said.
“Hats off to our gymnastics association as well. Mabuhay ka, Caloy! Mabuhay ang Philippine sports!”

Yulo’s latest world championship victory reaffirms his status as one of Asia’s most decorated gymnasts, and a symbol of Filipino excellence and perseverance on the global stage.
