Australian firm opens new site in Dumaguete, eyes up to 800 new jobs

DUMAGUETE CITY – WrkPod, an Australian firm that connects Filipino professionals with international employers, opened its latest site in this Negros Oriental capital on Thursday with up to 800 seats available for placement.

Co-founders Dale Beaumont and Kody Thompson led the commissioning of the newest site at the Perpetual Help Community Cooperative, Inc. (PHCCI) Capital Building here, together with WrkPod officials and partners.

“We will be slowly transitioning some of our staff and virtual assistants by next week and we will make this our headquarters,” Beaumont said during a media interview.

WrkPod will occupy four floors for workspaces with layouts varying from time to time depending on a client’s requirement, he said.

Each floor will accommodate around 120 or more desks.

The PHCCI Capital site is the fourth in Negros Oriental. It also has one site in Cebu City and another in Bacolod City, Negros Occidental.

WrkPod is leasing from PHCCI Capital for 15 years as it targets 10,000 jobs for Filipinos by 2028.

Thompson, the firm’s chief executive officer who started the business 10 years ago with about 30 posts only, said they are looking at filling up the seats at the new facility within the year.

“At the moment, we are hiring 60 people every single month, and so we plan to continue that speed and in fact, we hope to increase the capacity faster and fill up this facility,” he said.

WrkPod will also find other facilities here and in Bacolod City and Cebu City to accommodate more employees after the number of overseas clients they cater to has increased.

Beaumont said WrkPod has also brought some of their virtual assistants to Australia to learn about its culture and have international exposure.

Chris Docker, a British national who previously owned a business process outsourcing company in the Philippines but sold it to WrkPod and has now become its partner, underscored the potential of Filipinos in the industry.

“The one thing that I noticed is that the Filipino workforce has gotten stronger”, Docker said, adding that he stayed in the country for 18 years before moving back to the United Kingdom.
